CPA Pasadena AlternativeThe rates on the ground here

An owner in this town meets a stack of public rates, and each one below is tied to the office that publishes it.

Sales tax inside the city

State sales tax is 6.25 percent. Local pieces can add up to 2 percent, so 8.25 percent is the ceiling. In this city the local city tax is 1.5 percent under Comptroller local code 2101035, and the crime control district is 0.5 percent under local code 5101516. That named stack reaches 8.25 percent.

There is no Harris County sales tax sitting on top of the city piece and the crime control district. Selling in more than one city in the county means watching each city, not a county rate. The worksheet keeps the pieces apart.

Sales tax still has to be in on the 20th, livestock show weekend or not. A deposit booked in the wrong month is inherited by that return. The close is what keeps the weekend in the period it was earned.

The school rate most blocks meet

Most of the city sits in one school district, with Deer Park, Clear Creek, and La Porte covering other slices. The Comptroller school district workbook shows a 2025 total rate of 1.1722 per 100 dollars of taxable value for the district that covers most blocks here, with maintenance and operations at 0.8322 and interest and sinking at 0.34. The workbook share we use is about 72.51 percent of the census blocks inside the city, which is not a promise about one address.

Owners do not pick the school rate. They meet it on a building and on equipment sitting in the yard. Rendition day is 15 April unless a written request has already moved it to 15 May. The Harris Central Appraisal District is the appraisal district for this city, and the form is what tells that office which personal property is on the ground.

The rendition form lets an owner certify that total market value is not more than 125,000 dollars and skip the asset detail. That box is a real choice, and it is the moment a number written too fast becomes next year's bill. We read the form with you before it is signed. We do not invent a value for equipment we have not seen.

The school rate comes from the Comptroller school district workbook. The rendition date comes from the Comptroller property tax deadline calendar together with Tax Code section 22.23. Which district covers which slice of the city comes from the city's own description.

The franchise report in May

A loud plant year and a quiet shop year do not owe the same franchise result. For the reports filed in 2026 and 2027, revenue under 2,650,000 dollars owes nothing. A retail counter along the channel, or a wholesale counter, is charged 0.375 percent after revenue clears that line. A plant, a clinic, or any other trade is charged 0.75 percent on the same reports. The date on the calendar is 15 May, and the rate follows the year named on the report.

A turnaround can push revenue across a threshold that a normal year would miss. That is another reason the fat quarter has to stay visible. If the books smear it into the other months, the report is a story about a company that did not exist.

Hotel tax, only if you rent rooms

The city reported a municipal hotel occupancy tax rate of 7 percent for fiscal year 2025. The state hotel tax is 6 percent on top of a local rate. Most owners on this page do not rent rooms. If you do, the two rates are not one rate, and the state report is due on the 20th.

We mention it so a mixed file does not discover the local piece in a notice. Source is the Comptroller local hotel file and the Comptroller hotel tax page.

How these rows meet the monthly work

A rate is not a personality. It is a date and a percentage that the close has to respect. Sales tax collected is not revenue. A rendition is not a depreciation schedule, though the two should be able to look at each other without blushing. The franchise report is not the federal return, and it should not be prepared by someone who has never seen the months.

The San Jacinto Monument stands next door, on the battleground, and people here grow up in its shadow. We are Texans who can feel that pride without claiming we watched the sunrise on the reflecting pool. When we see the monument we also see a school rate and a rendition, because that is the work. The grasses at Armand Bayou are the other mood of the same county, quiet and wide, and a quiet month deserves a close too.

If a figure on this page goes stale, tell us on the form. We would rather replace a sentence than defend a rate that the Comptroller has already changed.

One more caution belongs with the rates. A combined sales tax receipt is not a single tax. The city piece and the crime control piece have different codes, and a worksheet that keeps them apart is how the 20th stays boring. Boring is the result we want.

A feed store that sells through the livestock show still files on the 20th, even when the drawer was counted after midnight. We date the deposit to the weekend and the return to the month, and we keep those two dates from blurring into one story.
